Bindscan is a documentation tool for
Novell System Administrators. It uses the
Novell API to scan the Bindery for User,
Group, and File Server information. This
information is then printed in concise
reports.
Bindscan is written in Clarion
Professional Developer version 2.0 using
a custom bindery interface.

System Requirements
Bindscan requires a workstation running
DOS 3.x, with 640k RAM, attached to a
Novell File Server running Novell 2.1 or
greater. Because the reports require many
function calls available only to
Supervisor, the user running Bindscan
must be Supervisor or have Supervisor
equivalence.
Files
The following files are on the
distribution diskette:
BINDSCAN.EXE The Bindscan program
BINDSCAN.HLP The On-Line Help file
BINDSCAN.CTL The Report Options file
Installation
Install Bindscan by copying the three
files listed above to any drive. It is
suggested that the files be copied to the
SYS:PUBLIC directory on the file server.
This will allow access to Bindscan from
any directory while logged into the
server. Assuming floppy drive is A:
NCOPY A:BINDSCAN.* SYS:PUBLIC
A search drive should be mapped to
SYS:PUBLIC so that the Bindscan utility
can be accessed from any directory.

Output Device
The Output Device parameter is a DOS
device name or a file specification. If
it is a device name, the reports are
written to the DOS device, if the Output
Device is not a DOS device, it is assumed
to be a file specification and the
reports are written to the file. If the
file already exists, information in the
file will be replaced. If the file does
not exists, it will be created. If the
file specification is invalid, the
reports will be printed to LPT1. The
following is a list of valid DOS device
names:
PRN 1st Parallel Printer
LPT1 1st Parallel Printer
LPT2 2nd Parallel Printer
LPT3 3rd Parallel Printer
COM1 1st Serial Port

ALT and press 27 on the numeric keypad.
BINDSCAN.CTL

BINDSCAN.CTL and read in each time
Bindscan is started. The rules for
loading BINDSCAN.CTL are as follows:
If BINDSCAN.CTL is found in the default
directory, the Report Options are loaded
in. If BINDSCAN.CTL is not found in the
default directory, the DOS PATH is
searched and the first BINDSCAN.CTL file
found is loaded. If no BINDSCAN.CTL file
is found in the DOS PATH, a new file is
created in the default directory.
BINDSCAN.CTL defaults are Output Device:
LPT1 and no setup string.
